Aurora Aksnes' earliest musical memory is of finding the piano in her attic, then becoming enthralled by its sounds. Jan Oystein Aksnes was her father. He urged her not to do music just for fun or to aid in development but instead, she was encouraged to pursue it. She began to write writing her own songs. Her influences include renowned writers Leonard Cohen and Bob Dylan, as well as her love for Bjork's style. Her mom encouraged her to play her music publicly, not so that she could be famous, but in order to show others how important they are and what they can do for the world. When she began playing the piano, she was only six and was writing her first song at the age of nine. Family members didn't even have any idea about it until she reached the age of fourteen. The dream was never to become Aurora. The singer claims she is a fan of creating songs. For her, the music she writes is how she feels about anything.
