Aurora Aksnes first musical memory was when she discovered a keyboard in her loft and being intrigued by its sounds. Jan Oystein Aksnes was her father. He urged her not to pursue music solely for pleasure or as a means of development but instead, she should take it seriously. In order to do so, she began writing songs that were her own creations. She cites renowned songwriters Leonard Cohen and Bob Dylan in her influences, along with an appreciation for the style of Bjork. To counter her mother's suggestions that her children should not be aiming at achieving fame through the songs she writes, but rather realize the importance of themselves and their impact on society. When she began playing the piano, she was just six and began writing music when she was nine. The fact that she was a musician wasn't known by her family until she was fourteen. Aurora wasn't a childhood dream. The singer says that she simply likes to compose music. She believes that music can help anyone feel better.
