Jan Oystein Aksnes and May-Britt Aksnes urged Aurora to pursue music, not as an income or as a pastime and as a way to improve. This led to her started writing her own music. She credits Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen and Bjork for being among her inspirations. She decided to start performing her songs publicly when her mother suggested that they could help people not be famous with her music, but rather to help the people around them understand their importance and the ways they can affect the world. She began playing the piano at age six and writing music at age nine. The family members didn't know about her music until she reached 14. Aurora had no idea of being famous. The singer says that she simply likes creating songs. Music to her is the best method of feeling anything.
